Biography
Dr Amanda Khumalo completed her MBChB in 2007 from the University of Limpopo (formerly known as MEDUNSA) and went on to practice in rural KwaZulu Natal for a few years. During her time serving the rural communities of KwaZulu Natal she was exposed to a wide variety of [athology which strengthened her interest in the disciplines of clinical
microbiology and infectious disease. She joined the registrar training program in medical microbiology with the National Health Laboratory service (NHLS) at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital and completed her FC Path (Medical Microbiology) in 2017. In 2022 she completed her Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene to further her knowledge on neglected tropical diseases. She has worked as a clinical microbiologist within the NHLS Groote Schuur hospital laboratory for many years with involvement in the laboratory diagnostic service, critical care ward rounds, antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds, undergraduate teaching, registrar training and research. Dr Khumalo has a special interest in antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control. Dr Khumalo is committed to optimizing patient care by providing an excellent pathology service.
