The Usefulness of AI in Infection Prevention & Control and Scientific Research

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a huge potential in advancing the practice of infection prevention and control (IPC). My talk explores the benefit of AI in surveillance, infection diagnosis, hand hygiene, and surface disinfection. The talk will also cover key considerations of AI in the pursue of scientific research.
By exploring the value of this emerging technology and understanding the ethical application, IPC professionals can use AI responsibly to contribute to knowledge synthesis or enhance their practice to improve patient care and safety.

Biography

Dr. Jim Ayukekbong is an infectious disease epidemiologist and the Vice President of Infection Prevention and Control for Southbridge Healthcare in Canada. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Infection Control and author of the book, Infection Prevention and Control Guide for Healthcare Professionals. His research focuses on the molecular epidemiology of enteric and respiratory viruses and has published several articles on the discovery, transmission and control of emerging viruses. He also periodically reviews articles for several international scientific journals. Dr. Jim is a guest lecturer for the Fundamentals in Infection Prevention and Control course organized by the Infection Control African Network.
