Soft tissue cancers: challenge of managing a rare disease in Africa
Abstract
Soft tissue cancers account for 1% of adult cancers. It sits throughout the whole body with greater frequency at limbs. At the epidemiological level, rare publications have been carried out in Africa. From the diagnostic point of view, due to limited means in most countries in Africa, the availability of MRI and good histopathology, guarantees of a good diagnosis, is lacking. It exposes to a poor evaluation of the severity and the local and general extent of the disease. The treatment is multidisciplinary. Surgery performed by a soft tissue specialist after discussion in Tumor board, followed by appropriate radiotherapy are necessary for a good prognosis.
The challenge in Africa is to bring together all the diagnostic and therapeutic conditions by insisting on training and harmonization of practices.
